چکیده

The search for topological phases of matter is evolving towards strongly interacting systems, including magnets and superconductors, where exotic effects emerge from the quantum-level interplay between geometry, correlation topology. Over past decade or so, scanning tunnelling microscopy has become a powerful tool to probe discover emergent matter, because its unprecedented spatial resolution, high-precision electronic detection magnetic tunability. Scanning can be used various phenomena, as well complement results other techniques. We discuss some these proof-of-principle methodologies applied topology, with particular attention studies performed under tunable vector field, which relatively new direction recent focus. then project future possibilities atomic-resolution methods in providing insights into matter.

Laser-combined scanning tunnelling microscopy for probing ultrafast transient dynamics.

The development of time-resolved scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM), in particular, attempts to combine STM with ultrafast laser technology, is reviewed with emphasis on observed physical quantities and spatiotemporal resolution. Ultrashort optical pulse technology has allowed us to observe transient phenomena in the femtosecond range, which, however, has the drawback of a relatively low spat...

Probing ultrafast spin dynamics with optical pump-probe scanning tunnelling microscopy.

Studies of spin dynamics in low-dimensional systems are important from both fundamental and practical points of view. Spin-polarized scanning tunnelling microscopy allows localized spin dynamics to be characterized and plays important roles in nanoscale science and technology. However, nanoscale analysis of the ultrafast dynamics of itinerant magnetism, as well as its localized characteristics,...

Scanning tunnelling microscopy of suspended graphene.

Suspended graphene has been studied by STM for the first time. Atomic resolution on mono- and bi-layer graphene samples has been obtained after ridding the graphene surface of contamination via high-temperature annealing. Static local corrugations (ripples) have been observed on both types of structures.

Scanning tunnelling microscopy studies of silicides

We review the topic of scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) studies of silicides, with an emphasis on fundamental scientific issues that can be addressed using STM and ballistic-electron-emission microscopy (BEEM). The discussion is organized according to the topics of structure (atomic scale precursors, surface reconstructions, bulk structures, interfaces) kinetics and growth (direct atomic me...

Scanning tunnelling microscopy and spectroscopy of MgB2

Experiments of the scanning tunnelling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/STS) have been carried out on the layered superconductor MgB2 with Tc = 39 K. The measurements were done at 5 K using a Pt-Ir tip and the single-crystal grain. The STM images show characteristic hexagonal patterns with the distances of nearest neighbour atoms to be 0.3 – 0.35 nm and 0.15 – 0.2 nm, respectively, which are co...
